Marathias (in the state of Fokidos) is a beautiful, coastal village located in historic, central Greece. Many of its inhabitants live, fish, and farm here, throughout the year. During the late summer months, there is a lively nightlife, including music festivals, food festivals, and other celebrations. Marathias is also close to the beautiful and historic port cities of Nafpaktos (15 minutes) and Galaxidi (45 minutes), and many other places, such as ancient Delphi (1 hour). Foreign visitors may feel surprised at how comfortable and welcomed they will feel in Marathias. This is because Marathiotes (the inhabitants of Marathias) believe in the practice of philoxenia (xenophilia): the fondness and hearty welcoming of all visitors. © Dimitri Stamatis.
